It is effective in controlling catarrhal conditions and associated symptoms such as coryza, sneezing, soreness of the chest, headache and also viral fevers. It is composed of five important homoeopathic drugs such as Aconitum napellus, Eupatorium perfoliatum, Gelsemium sempervirens, Kali phosphoricum and Nux vomica.
Aconitum napellus is a drug which acts on the respiratory sphere and covers the symptoms like oppressed breathing, constant pressure on the left side of the chest, hoarse, dry cough and loud laboured breathing. The larynx is sensitive with dry cough, short and hacking which is worse at night and after midnight. It is also indicated in coryza with sneezing, mucous membrane dry, nose stopped up and scanty watery coryza. Eupatorium perfoliatum is the best remedy for viral fevers and associated symptoms. Coryza with sneezing, hoarseness and cough with soreness in the chest are also covered by this drug. The fever with perspiration followed by chills, preceded by thirst with great soreness and aching of bones. Gelsemium sempervirens is indicated in acute bronchitis with the slowness of breathing, oppression in the chest, dry cough with sore chest and fluent coryza. Acute coryza with dull headache and fever are also covered by this drug.
Kali phosphoricum is for nasal catarrh with fetid discharge and asthmatic breathing, short on going upstairs. The cough is dry with scanty yellow expectoration. Nux vomica is suitable for persons who are very sensitive to cold and sedentary habits. The nose is stuffed up, and snuffles, after exposure to a dry cold atmosphere. Coryza is fluent in the daytime and worse at night and outdoors. It covers the catarrhal hoarseness with asthmatic breathing, with fullness in the stomach the morning after eating. The respiration is shallow, oppressed with a tight, dry cough with a bursting headache.
