Acne vulgaris (commonly called acne) is a common skin condition, affecting 85-100% of people at some time during their lives, especially during adolescence. The inflammatory follicles may be due to increased sebum secretion, hormonal imbalance, abnormal keratinisation, etc.
 Causes
It happens when a pore in the facial skin clogs. This clog begins with dead skin cells. Normally, dead skin cells rise to surface of the pore, and the body sheds the cells. When the body starts to make lots of sebum (oil that keeps our skin from drying out), the dead skin cells can stick together inside the pore. Instead of rising to the surface, the cells become trapped inside the pore. Sometimes it may be due to bacteria that live on the skin also get inside the clogged pore. Inside the pore, the bacteria have a perfect environment for multiplying very quickly. With loads of bacteria inside, the pore becomes inflamed (red and swollen). If the inflammation goes deep into the skin, an acne cyst or nodule appears.

Homoeopathic management
It is managed by homoeopaths by considering the location, size, colour, pus formation, whether painful or painless, oily or non-oily face and skin, constitution, miasm, etc. Homoeopaths usually prescribe drugs like Acidum fluoricum, Antimonium crudum, Arsenicum bromatum, Arsenicum iodatum, Berberis aquifolium QÂ or Topi Berberis which contains 10% of the drug (external application), Calcarea silicata, Eugenia, Hepar sulphur, Kalium arsenicosum, Kalium bromatum, Natrum muriaticum, Teucrrium, etc. sometimes along with wide coverage medications like Hepar Sulphuris Pentarkan and Alpha-Liv (for detoxification) .

Dos and don’ts
It is hormone related in many cases of young girls and boys. Avoidance of spicy, fried food and intake of fruits would be helpful. Frequent washing of face with Akne-sor soap and use of Topi Berberis cream are other helpful measures.
