Introduction
A sluggish liver is a condition of the liver in which the liver is not able to perform its normal functioning. Main action of the liver is to remove toxins from the body and produce bile. In-today’s time, sluggish liver is caused because of changes in lifestyle, eating of increased fatty food, high alcohol, increased mental exertion and many other factors are also present.

Causes

There are various reasons which can lead to Sluggish liver. Followings are some reasons which commonly causes alteration in the functioning of the liver:

  • Obesity or weight gain
  • Lack of Exercise
  • Alcohol consumption
  • Diabetes
  • Medications like aspirin, corticosteroids.
  • Consumption of fat.
  • Aging
  • Excessive consumption of oral contraceptives pills

Homeopathic Treatment

Homeopathy is the science which deals with the person as a whole. Homeopathy is very effective in treating liver problems either, acute and chronic. Its main motive is to make strong defence system of the body, to avoid any other pathologies. Following are the homeopathic medicine which has its action in Sluggish liver:

CHELIDONIUM MAJUS: It is one of the liver remedies in homeopathy. All complaints occur in right side whether it is abdomen, lung, etc. Dull, throbbing pain in right side of abdomen, especially in the region of liver. Thick yellow coated tongue showing an imprint of teeth. Desire for very hot drinks. The prominent symptom is the pain under right shoulder and pain in the right upper abdomen. The patient has constipation; passes hard stool in the form of hard balls. Nausea and vomiting were present with a distended abdomen.

ARSENIC ALBUM: All complaints arises from bad effects of eating decayed food or animal matter. Burning thirst is present without special desire to drink as the stomach does not seem to tolerate it because it cannot tolerate cold water, lies like a stone in the stomach.

PHOSPHORUS: Phosphorus is another very well used remedy in liver diseases in both acute and chronic complaints. Phosphorus is also very effective in treatment of cirrhosis of the liver a patient desire for cold food and drink, juicy refreshing things, ice cream, relieved gastric pains. But as soon as water becomes warm in stomach it is thrown out. This happens due to involvement of liver with congestion and weakness. It is associated with sour belching.

CARDUUS MARIANUS: it has special action on Liver in cirrhosis of liver, gall stone diseases with enlarged liver. Pain is present in the region of liver and left lobe of liver is very sensitive to touch with presence of tenderness, worse from pressure. A patient suffers from hard, difficult, knotty stool, alternates with diarrhoea.

CHIONANTHUS: Jaundice is another common liver problem that occurs due to high bilirubin levels. The symptoms include an enlarged liver, constipation, clay-coloured stools and very yellow skin. Chionanthus is excellent medicine for gall stones with soreness in the liver region and bilious colic accompanied by jaundice.

NATRUM SULPHURICUM: Natrum Sulph is well indicated when hepatic region is highly sensitive to touch, during a walk, or to a sudden jar. Vomiting of bile is another important symptom of Natrum Sulph. Stitching pain in the region of the liver is also experienced by the patient while walking in the open air.

BERBERIS VULGARIS: Mainly Berberis vulgaris used for stone formation either in renal or gall bladder. Sensation of pressure felt in the region of the liver. A patient experience severe pain in the groin region, esp. when walking and standing which extending to the testes, the thighs, and the loins.

LYCOPODIUM: It is a medicine for fatty liver associated with acidity and gastric troubles. There is bloating of the stomach after eating. Burning in the stomach with belching is present. The person feels heaviness in the upper right part of the abdomen. Generally, the symptoms got worse between 4-8 pm. A desire for hot drinks and sweets is present.

NUX VOMICA: Nux vomica is another homeopathic medicine for fatty liver. The person experiences pain in abdomen after eating. The symptoms are because of overconsumption of alcohol. Bitter and sour belching is present with pain. It is accompanied by constipation with an incomplete desire to pass stool. Pain relieved after passing stool, but it is temporary. Urge for fatty food, spicy food, alcoholic drinks, and coffee.

CALCAREA CARBONICA: The patient is fair, fatty, flabby with an excess of fat in the liver and whole abdomen. The digestion is prolonged with long- standing constipation. A person dislikes milk. A desire for pencils, chalk, and boiled eggs is present. The patient is sensitive to cold and excessive sweating on the head.

Conclusion

The sluggish liver is common disease because of faulty lifestyles such as wrong eating habits (fatty food, excessive alcohol consumption) which is associated with many liver diseases such as Hepatitis, cirrhosis of liver which maybe end up with death. Homeopathy is the mode of treatment that can control further damage to the liver.
