Alpha™- Liv Drops

Alpha – Liv Drops Due to high demand from the market, for a formulation in drops for the liver, apart from the syrup already available in the market, Schwabe India developed this product. Introduction The liver plays a key role in metabolism. It has anabolic and catabolic, exocrine and endocrine functions. The liver is a blood reservoir, filter and store of different substances (e.g. glycogen, vitamins). It is the site of serum protein (e.g. albumin, prothrombin, fibrinogen) and enzyme synthesis. Metabolic processes (e.g. bilirubin, hormone, carbohydrate and lipid turnover) and the removal of toxic products are important liver functions. 1 Hepatotoxins (e.g. alcohol, tetracycline, acetaminophen, fungal toxins, and anabolic steroids) can cause specific damage to liver cells. Toxic hepatitis may be clinically silent or severe enough to lead to the rapid development of hepatic failure. Clinical features include hepatomegaly, enzyme abnormalities, fever, abdominal pain, anorexia, nausea, vomiting and weight loss. In patients with underlying cirrhosis, manifestations of portal hypertension may predominate. Aversion to fatty food, abdominal discomfort, nausea and vomiting after meals may be symptoms of 2 cholelithiasis. Jaundice results from accumulation of bilirubin. It has non-hepatic as well as hepatic causes. Hyperbilirubinaemia may be due to abnormalities in the 3 formation, transport, metabolism or excretion of bilirubin. TM Alpha -Liv Drops aids recovery and normalisation of liver functions. Severe liver disease needs specialised treatment. Indications: Slow liver functions, fatty liver, and for supportive treatment of hepatocellular jaundice and toxic liver damage.

Schwabe News-July to Dec 2018-Obituary

Obituary
Dr. Paras Nath Varma (1937-2018)

Dr. Paras Nath Varma

Dr. P.N. Varma, the man who changed the outlook of homoeopathic pharmaceutical industry and its quality control, who gave a scientific bend to homoeopathic system of medicine, passed away on 5th November 2018.  Dr. P. N. Varma had been part of every milestone of Schwabe India, starting from the foundation of the organization until a few days prior to his sudden departure from this world. His technical inputs not only guided Schwabe India, but also the whole Schwabe Group.

It is a well-known fact that Dr. Varma had put tremendous efforts to improve the quality of homoeopathic medicines in the country. He was the one behind crating the framework of GMP guidelines for homoeopathy in India. However, he rightly understood the concerns about the industry and has always been the bridge between the industry and regulatory authorities, as he himself was a former regulator. He never compromised with ethics and quality. Always he took a stand to maintain the quality wherever or whatever it was.

His vast knowledge in homoeopathic pharmacy had helped Schwabe India to carry forward the dreams of Dr. Willmar Schwabe to the next step. Being the authority for quality control of homoeopathic medicines he had ensured that no product goes out of our plant with substandard quality. He had guided to establish such stringent processes without leaving any gap. Our team continues to follow the road map drawn by him.

Dr. Varma had been an all-rounder. Though he is known for his strong technical knowledge, only a few know about his mastery in understanding the commercial aspects, as he was from a business family. On one side he was an expert in quality control & pharmaceutical technology by education and a practitioner by profession, but on the other side he worked like a management professional by experience. He was a good marketer too. The inputs he kept giving to the marketing department when it used to go for his final approval, had always given a final touch with good marketing sense to popularize homoeopathy.

As an organization, we had to face certain technical challenges at times, which were easily overcome with his advice and expertise. He will be remembered forever for his contributions to homoeopathy.
