It is indicated in intestinal ulceration, liver diseases and as laxative. There are reports of its useful results in enteric fevers, which need confirmation. Externally used in gout and rheumatism, but lately with more effective anti-inflammatory and analgesic action. It is used externally for ringworm. Alcoholic extract is hypoglycaemic; used in epilepsy, convulsions, as antipyretic.
