Cough and cold are virtually universal and unavoidable. With changing season every few months, it is practically a given that people begin to cough and sneeze. The menace is that such an infection is highly contagious and spreads rapidly. Children are especially prone to catch the infection and spread it among their peers and family members.

Viral infections of the cold and cough variety generally begin with sneezing. Watery discharge from a runny nose is common along with irritation or pain in throat. This pain may gradually travel to either one or both the ears. Hoarseness and dry cough soon follow. Generally, mucus does not develop until bacterial infection supervenes. Discharge from nose also becomes thick only when bacterial infection has occurred. A blocked nose, worse while lying down, is common. The person might run a slight or even high fever depending on the virulence of the infecting agent. With fever come the usual symptoms- weakness, chills, malaise, fatigue, loss of appetite, etc.

The episode of cold and cough may last anywhere from three days to a week. Quite often, dry cough remains persistent even long after the episode has subsided. This cough may cause fatigue and even pain in the chest or head. Sleep is also impacted with persistent coughing.

While many conventional and unconventional medical formulations are available over the counter for cough and cold, one needs to be wise and well-informed before starting any medication. Different medicines may have different side effects, and the dosage and directions for use may also vary. An efficient and safe method to combat these seasonal illnesses is to employ homeopathic medicine for cough and cold in children as well as adults.

Homeopathic medicines are gentle on the body and cause no harm. They are capable to deal with all stages of cough and cold and can halt the progress of infections. Indeed, homeopathic medicines also act as a preventive to combat such contagious conditions. In children, the results of taking homeopathy are far superior than those of allopathic drugs. Also, regular usage of homeopathic medicines boosts immunity so that with time such attacks become infrequent.

Nisikind homeopathic medicine is one such formulation by Schwabe India that helps to fight regular cold and cough in children. It acts on the respiratory system primarily. Frequent attacks of cough are greatly helped by this medicine. Also, sneezing, blocked nose, throat pain and other associated complaints can be benefitted by Nisikind.
