PROVING & CLINICAL VERIFICATION
Aegle marmelos is commonly known as Bel or Bael. This drug was clinically verified by Central Council for Research in Homoeopathy at 7 centres. The Council undertook provings of A. marmelos in 1987–1988 at Central Research Institute, Kottayam, and Drug Proving Research Unit, Ghaziabad. It was published by Central Council for Research in Homoeopathy, New Delhi, India in the Indian Journal of Research in Homoeopathy, Vol. 27 No.3, 2005. Fresh pulp of unripe or half ripe fruit is used to prepare the mother tincture. The period of study was from April 1984 to March 2003. The numbers of cases studied were 3709 and potencies used were Q, 6, 30 and 200. A combined material medica of this new proving and other published data is given below.
Vertigo with tendency to fall. Fear of falling, worse from standing and walking, and better by lying down.
Headache accompanied by heaviness in abdomen and flatulence. pain in the forehead with heaviness, worse in evening.
Redness in eyes. Stye; pain in the eyes worse from Sun heat, better by cold application.
Coryza with thin nasal discharge, with sneezing.
Aphthae. Difficulty in eating.
Appetite diminished. Indigestion with sour eructation, acidity, burning pain in chest and pain in abdomen. Pain in the epigastrium and in the left hypochondrium, with sensation of a ball and sour eructation. Burning in epigastrium; with distension of abdomen and sour eructation, worse night. Nausea and vomiting worse after eating.
Cutting pain in abdomen in the umbilical region, worse after eating. Flatulence with heaviness of abdomen, worse in the afternoon and after food; with pain in abdomen worse before passing stool, better after passing stool. Distension of abdomen worse after eating, better from passing flatus. Cramping pain in the abdomen at umbilical region, worse after eating, better after eructation. Aching pain in the abdomen worse after eating. Rumbling pain in the abdomen with loose stool. Pain in the abdomen with constipation and tenesmus in the rectum.
Constipation; stool dry, hard, scanty. Stool with mucous. Loose stool; mixed with blood and mucous, with pain in abdomen. Piles; swollen and painful, with bleeding of bright red blood and burning pain in anus, worse during stool. Alternate constipation and diarrhoea. Stool unsatisfactory; semi liquid, 2-3 times a day.
Burning urination at night.
Seminal emission from dreams, worse during sleep.
Leucorrhoea, with thick whitish discharge.
Bronchitis; cough with thick yellowish expectoration.
Backache, lumbo-sacral region, worse sitting, leaning forward, standing and better by lying down.
Pain in joints with stiffness, worse morning.
Fever, with chill, worse at evening, flushes of heat from face, eyes and ears, better by eating.
Small dry reddish eruptions with itching, worse at night. Scabies with itching and sticky discharge.
