Urolithiasis, commonly known as renal calculi or kidney stone, represents the third most prevalent urological condition, characterized by significant morbidity and socio-economic implications while exhibiting low mortality rates. This condition is mostly detected chronic as initially it is asymptomatic for long. It represents a significant public health issue and affects up to 20% of general population worldwide. A key challenge in the treatment and management of urolithiasis is the high recurrence rate, as the formation of stones is multifactorial in nature. Stone formation is primarily influenced by imbalances in urinary modulators, including promoters (e.g., calcium, oxalate, uric acid) and inhibitors (e.g., citrate, magnesium, potassium), leading to supersaturation and the formation of calculi. The majority of kidney stones consist of calcium oxalate and phosphate, with other types including struvite, uric acid, and cystine stones. Conventional medicines to manage urolithiasis mainly act on removing stones. Homeopathy, with its holistic and individualized remedies, helps address both kidney stones and their root causes, offering a natural alternative to synthetic drugs and their potential adverse effects.
