Field Emission Scanning Electron Microscopic (FESEM) and Energy Dispersive Spectroscopic (EDS) Studies of Centesimal Scale Potencies of the Homoeopathic Drug Lycopodium clavatum
Homoeopathic medicines are prepared by pharmacological method of potentisation or trituration in any of three scales viz. decimal, centesimal and 50 millesimal. In each process original quantity is divided by 10, 100, and 50,000 in each step respectively. Conventional medicine is generally available in concentration of 10-6M (equivalent to 6x/3C in homoeopathy) micro molar to 10-9M nanomolar (9x/4.5C in homoeopathy). So, in high homoeopathic dilution single molecule of the source substance is said to be theoretically impossible, however it has biological action on the individual. Hence researcher of this paper had sought to examine the potential physical properties of a homoeopathic medicine Lycopodium clavatum.
With the help of Field Emission Scanning Electron Microscopy (FESEM) and Energy Dispersive Spectroscopy (EDS), potency of Lycopodium clavatum was studied for particle and their elementary composition.
Result showed that nanoparticle were present in all the potencies tested. Carbon and oxygen were present in the entire sample particle. The present study confirms the presence of nanoparticle in common homoeopathic medicine Lycopodium clavatum.
Earlier a study by IIT-Bombay had showed that highly diluted homoeopathic remedies made from metals still contain measurable amounts of the starting material, even at extreme dilutions of 1 part in 10 raised to 400.
