Pothos foetidus 


It is commonly known as Skunk cabbage. It is prepared from root. The drug was earlier reported by T. F. Allen, A. L. Blackwood, W. Boericke, J. H. Clarke, C. Hering and others.The proving details are in the book “Homoeopathic Drug Provings, Volume 2”, published in 2007 by Central Council for Research in Homoeopathy (CCRH). The reproving was done by CCRH in 2001-2003 at (i) Drug Proving Research Unit (H), Midnapore and (ii) Regional Research Institute (H), New Delhi. 15 provers took part in the proving.  7 of them were controlled provers. A combined materia medica is given below which is compiled from different materia medica (s).

POTHOS FOETIDUS

Mind 
Feeling of injured with a knife while using it.  Irritability in mind. Cross; impetuous; inclined to contradict. 

Vertigo
Vertigo with nausea after taking medicine. . Vertigo and dimness of sight.

Head
Headache, worse noon.  Pain in whole head, worse noon.  Aching whole head, worse evening.  Aching in head with pain in throat.  Headache, worse night and remain whole night.  Pinching pain in left side of head. Frontal headache, worse morning, better by hot milk.  Bursting pain in right temporal region. Headache in single places, lasting a short while, then changing place; dullness; pressing in temples, now more in one, then more in the other, with violent pulsation of arteries.

POTHOS FOETIDUS

Nose
Sneezing frequent, worse morning and evening.  Sneezing with acrid nasal discharge, worse noon. The nose is swollen as far as the nasal bones extend, red like a saddle, sore to touch. Cartilage cold and bloodless, with red spots on cheeks.

Face
Papular eruptions with itching on face during menses.  Small pimples on left side of face.

Mouth
Burning pain in mouth with ulcer inside the lower lip. Numbness of tongue, cannot touch teeth with it. Tongue red and sore on tip and edges. 

Throat 
Pain in throat with headache, worse evening.  Aching in throat, worse morning. Pain with soreness in throat, worse morning after waking up. Burning from fauces downwards through chest.

Stomach
Vomiting frequent with nausea worse evening. With every firm step, pain in pit of stomach as from something is breaking loose.

Abdomen
Accumulation of gas with rumbling, heaviness in lower abdomen, gripping pain, worse eating, better passing flatus.  Pain in whole abdomen, colicky. Rumbling sensation in abdomen with flatulence and loose stool. When walking, sensation as if the entrails were hanging loose and flabby without any pain.

Rectum
Constipation, stool passes with great difficulty, blackish.  Stool, constipated and hard. Painless frequent watery loose stool.  Watery stool, frequent desire. Loose stool, worse night.

Urinary
Burning pain in urethra during urination.

Respiratory
Cough, worse morning with rattling chest, yellow expectoration.  Mild cough with sore throat. Sudden anxiety, with dyspnœa and sweat, followed by stool and relief of that and other complaints. Inclined to take a deep breath: with hollowness of chest; with constriction in fauces and chest. Asthma, worse or caused by dust.

Chest
Pain in chest (lower part), worse morning.

Extremities
Eruptions on thighs with slight itching.  Pain in legs, better by pressure.

Sleep
Disturbed sleep due to cold/coryza.  Unrefreshing, sleepy with desire to lying down.

Fever
Fever with headache and sneezing, worse evening.

Skin
Red eruptions all over the body with itching and burning, better applying water.

Generalities
Fatigue, no desire to work, better pressure.  Laziness, no desire to work. Pain all over the body with throat pain.  Weakness feeling with headache.
