Mother tincture info
Duboisia myoporoides
It is a member of the Solanaceae family. A tall glabrous shrub or small tree, flowers, axillary clusters, white with two-lipped calyx; corolla, funnel-shaped; limb, five parted; five stamens within the corolla (two long and two short); one rudimentary ovary, too many-ovalled compartments and fruit berry-like; leaves, inodorous and bitter taste. It is native to eastern Australia, Papua New Guinea and New Caledonia.
It contains alkaloidal sulphates, mainly hyoscyamine and hyoscine.
Its homoeopathic mother tincture is prepared from the leaves. It is covered by Homoeopathic Pharmacopoeia of India as well as Homoeopathic Pharmacopoeia of United States. It was proved by Norris.
It is used for treating motion sickness, stomach disorders, and the side effects of cancer therapy. It has affinity towards nervous system, eyes and upper respiratory tract. It is recommended in atrophic pharyngitis (pharyngitis sicca), with black, stringy mucus. It dilates the pupil, dries the mouth, checks perspiration, causes headache and drowsiness. On the eye it acts more promptly than Atropia, much stronger as a mydriatic. Red spots floats in the field of vision. Sensation as if stepping on empty space. Vertigo with pale face; not gastric in origin. Scarlet fever; locomotor ataxia. Palliative in exophthalmic goitre. The homoeopaths use the tincture and the alkaloid for paralysis and eye affections; a red spot interfering with vision is an indication for its use. It is antidoted by coffee and lemon-juice.
