Tussikind is composed of remedies like Antimonium sulphuratum aureum, Bryonia alba, Drosera rotundifolia, Spongia tosta and Ipecacuanha. Antimonium sulphuratum aureum is proved to have a great affinity for respiratory organs. The mucus is accumulated in the larynx, trachea and bronchi, respiration is difficult. The cough is dry, and hard with passive congestion of the upper lobe of the left lung. The sputum is mixed with blood and the taste is sweetish. Bryonia alba is indicated in a cough which is dry, hacking, from irritation in the upper trachea. The larynx and trachea are sore and dry. The cough is worse at night, after eating or drinking, warm room and in the dry cold wind. The respiration is difficult, quickened, caused by stitches in the chest, with long breaths and must support his chest during coughing. The expectoration is rust-coloured, brick shade, tough, like lumps of jelly. Drosera rotundifolia is indicated in bronchitis and tuberculosis. The cough is spasmodic, dry, irritative, whooping, very deep, hoarse, with paroxysmal following each other rapidly. The patient can scarcely breathe, chokes and coughs worse after midnight, with yellow expectation with bleeding from the nose and mouth. The larynx feels rough, scraping sensation and feather-like sensation with hoarseness of the voice. The cough in children is harassing and titillating all through the day and starts as soon as the head touches the pillow. It is the best-indicated remedy for asthma. Spongia tosta covers the dryness of the air passages, hoarseness and cough which is croupy, barking and drying worse from inspiration and before midnight.
