Ononis spinosa MT is indicated in cases of epilepsy, epistaxis and headache. There are reports that it prevents formation of kidney and bladder stones. It improves gouty conditions, perhaps due to lowering of serum uric acid. Volatile oils of the root have been found to be diuretic whereas the non volatile oil content is antidiuretic. Infusion is diuretic and boiled extract antidiuretic. Its chloroform extractions have shown the highest radical scavenging activity (RSA), ensuring its anti-oxidant activity.
