Lycopus europaeus MT is used as an astringent, for cardio-tonic affects and to cover symptoms of palpitation, anxiety and to lower fever. Some research has been done on this drug which shows that it lowers the activity of the thyroid glands. It is useful in pulmonic and other haemorrhages. Research has supported its action in hyperthyroidism. Externally, it is used as poultice to cleanse foul wounds. Its components have shown antibacterial activities.
