A gastro-intestinal irritant inducing salivation, vomiting and cleansing; Excess of blood in brain; neuralgic pains, with depression, palpitation, and difficulty in breathing.

Mind: Emotional. Uneasy and sensation as if something unpleasant were to happen. In daytime was constantly expecting some bad news; everything seemed to worry and annoy. Sense of apprehension, throughout the proving, as of some trouble, which may have depended upon the morbid state of the mind at the time of the proving. Intellectual. Time seemed to pass slowly. Can hardly control the actions of the mind, can neither think nor study; dull and bewildered. Felt dull all day. Dulness of powers, and great inertia all day. Dull feeling, and indisposition to talk. Absent- minded about everything, in writing spoiled several letters by writing the wrong words often. Difficulty in thinking what word to use while writing.

Head: Vertigo on walking; seems as if would fall to left side. Head feels light and dizzy; seemed to incline to left side. General Head. Congestion of the head; sense of fullness in the head, neck, and chest. Head felt dull for two or three days. Pains all through the head, vertex, and occiput, extending down into the spine. Sensation of fullness in head, especially between the temples and in front. Sensation of fulness in head with pain in temporal region and in front, in the morning. Head feels full and heavy, in the morning. Head felt full and heavy, but did not really ache. Slight headache; not marked. Forehead. Great congestion and pressure in the forehead, in the morning. Languid, dull feeling in the forehead, Continued headache in the frontal and temporal region, in the afternoon. Intense congestive headache in frontal region, with darting pains inward from each temple. Sensation as if the lobes of the cerebrum were drawn forward toward the frontal sinuses. Temples. Pains in temples. Headache in temporal region. Headache in both temples, extending inwards; lasted half an hour; relieved by hard pressure. Slight headache in temporal region. Severe headache in temporal region, extending towards the cente. Headache in left temporal region, extending towards the center, dull, oppressive pain, towards evening. Sharp pain in both temples, extending inwards, more severe in left. Sharp sticking pains in right temple, worse from motion, but did not stop when sitting still. Just before noon, felt sharp darting pain in right temporal region, and also neuralgic pain in arm. Headache. with dull sore pain in temporal region, with dizziness. Vertex. Immediately after dinner headache in vertex; space as large as hand seemed to ache, lasted only a few minutes; relieved by pressure. Headache seemed to be in left half of head and to throb and beat, aggravated by coughing or moving; could not bear to have anything touch the back of the head, and felt better with the hair down or up high on head. Occiput. Several times during the afternoon pain high up in the occiput, extending inwards. Awoke with a pain in the head, low down in the occiput; much worse on raising up or accidentally moving the head, in the morning; toward noon the pain increased, and went up over the top of the head to forehead, and there had a strong congestive headache, with throbbing of carotids, lasting till evening and then gradually disappearing. Scalp felt dry and tight.

Eye: Slight haziness of retina. Eyes felt sore. Eyes sore and painful to touch. Sensations as if the brows were corrugated, and as if the brain were also drawn down. Lids heavy. Fear of light. Fear of light on awaking, which continued through the day. Great fear of light, especially from gaslight.

Ear: Some time during each day, a roaring in one ear for a time and then in the other, then stopping entirely.

Face: Face red, full, and bloated, in the morning. Face pale. Face pale and sunken. Face very pale.

Mouth: Tongue light, and smooth. During all the time the tongue was covered with a thin white coating, thicker at the base. Tongue coated smoothly, and evenly white. Tongue white; thinly and smoothly coated. Tongue coated smoothly and thickly dirty-white; apparently thicker towards center and far back. Taste. Sour taste in mouth.

Throat: Acidity in throat. Fauces red and raw. Fauces rose-red and dry towards evening; hurts to swallow food or liquids. Hurts to swallow. Throbbing of the carotids.

Stomach: Appetite less than usual. Thirst. No thirst, Eructations, empty eructations, etc. Eructations of sour-tasting gas. Uneasy feeling as of a lump or weight in the stomach, continuing several days.

Abdomen: Hypochondria. Severe lancinating pains in left upper side of abdomen, with swelling of abdomen with air or gas; the pain increasing and spreading over the whole intestinal region. Constant pain in the abdomen just above the umbilicus, constantly biting, with many problems. Warm or slightly burning sensation about the umbilicus. Burning in abdomen below the umbilicus. Griping about the umbilicus continues. Griping and aching in abdomen below the umbilicus, not relieved by change of position. Sore pain in and below the umbilical region; continued pain, but with aggravations. General Abdomen. Abdomen swollen and tender to pressure. Abdomen swollen slightly. Swelling of abdomen with air or gas. Excessive accumulation of gas, with some pain. Rumbling in the bowels, etc. Slight rumbling in bowels, with passage of gas. Flatus and severe colicky pains in abdomen, followed by stool, which was somewhat consistent, with great soreness and smarting of the anus; the colic seemed to be somewhat relieved by bending forward. Colic pain relieved by stool, but smarting of the anus remains. Frequent passage of fetid flatus for an hour. Feels as if there would be a movement of the bowels, but have not pain. Some discomfort in the abdomen, which is still swelling of abdomen with air and gas. A continued discomfort in abdomen all the evening, like ?stomachache,? with passage of flatus.

Rectum and Anus: Throbbing stitching pain in the anus, and colicky pain in the abdomen. Soreness of anus. Great soreness and smarting of anus. Smarting of anus after stool. Slight desire for stool twice during the day. Tenesmus and straining at stool.

Stool: Diarrhoea, towards evening; watery mucous stool, with pain in bowels, not entirely relieved by stool. Slight diarrhoea. Profuse diarrhoea; four copious stools during the day. Watery diarrhoea, in the evening, with much gas, only partially relieved by stool. Violent purging, with tenesmus. Soft diarrhoeic stool, with flatus. Loose, watery stools, partially relieving the pain in bowels. Stool, at first consistent, afterwards, thin, fecal, slimy, with flatus. Stool does not relieve the griping and contracting pain in the bowels; watery, thin, yellowish, fecal, no relief to the abdomen,sudden, gushing, watery, followed by thin fecal discharge; watery, preceded by some rumbling of bowels, watery, bubbling yeasty stool, with flatus; somewhat consistent; with colic and griping pain; thin, fecal. Passage of fecal mucus with the flatus, before rising. Constipation; small pasty stool, very insufficient. Constipation followed the bloody and other substance from mensus, for several days. Constipated, no desire for stool.
