The action of the drug is to stimulate the secretion of stomach, intestine and gall bladder. It has been used for minor digestive complaints, intermittent fevers, and as mild expectorant. It sometimes shows a strong action on the eyes like twitching, and disturbances of vision; flickerings; muscae volitantes. Homoeopathically the indications are sensation of contraction in many parts, sluggish liver and internally for strengthening of nerves specially optic. It is also used in cases of diarrhoea, headaches, cracking of joints and varicosis. Has reported properties similar to antibiotics.
