Alpha-Tons is the specialised homoeopathic formulation which is prepared from the remedies such as Atropinum sulphuricum, Hepar sulphuris, Kali bichromicum, Mercurius biniodatus and Silicea. The remedies have their action on the tonsils and are proven to be effective in treating tonsillitis. Atropinum sulphuricum is the main alkaloid of Belladonna which is indicated in tonsillitis and has been reported to be effective in giving immediate relief from tonsillitis. It covers the inflammation, and pain in the throat and improves circulation. It reduces the swelling, pulsating pain and dryness of the throat. Hepar sulphuris acts especially on the throat by reducing the soreness and shooting pain. There is a scraping sensation and pain from splinters on swallowing. Difficulty in speaking and swallowing are also covered by this drug. Kali bichromicum covers erythema of soft palate, bright or dark red discolouration, uvula relaxed, edematous bladder-like, with the sensation of a plug in the throat which is not better by swallowing. It reduces the discharge from the mouth and throat which is tough and stringy. It is best indicated in chronic tonsillitis and sinusitis. Mercurius biniodatus is the best remedy for quinsy, follicular tonsillitis in which the tonsils are dark red, swallowing painful, hawks mucus from posterior nares with the sensation of a lump in the throat. The stiffness of the muscles of the throat and neck is also relieved. Silicea covers sore throat with the accumulation of mucus in the throat, severe tonsillitis, pain from excoriation and pricking, and swelling of the palate and uvula. There is difficulty in swallowing and expectoration of little granules like shot, which when broken smell very offensive. It promotes the healing process.
