Sleep Disorder and Homoeopathic Treatment – Schwabe News Jan Mar 2019

Sleep disorder and homoeopathic treatment

In this double-blind, randomized, placebo-controlled, two parallel arms trial, patients were divided into control (placebo) and true (individualized homoeopathy) groups equally. A sleep diary containing latency to fall asleep (1), minutes awake in middle of night (2), minutes awake too early (3), hours spent in bed (4), total sleep time in hours (5), and sleep efficiency (6) has been given to the patients along with Insomnia Severity Index (ISI) to record the primary and secondary outcomes respectively, measured at baseline, and after 3 months. Trial arms were comparable at baseline. Except minutes awake too early in verum group outcomes were significantly improved. In the control group, there were significant improvements in diary item 6 and ISI score and just significant improvement in item 5.  Group differences for items 4, 5 and 6 were significant and for ISI score with moderate to large effect sizes were just significant; but non-significant for rest of the outcomes. From the trial it is concluded that verum seemed to produce significantly better effect than placebo.
