Illicium anisatum

It is also known as Illicium verum & Anisum stellatum. Its common name is Star Anise. It is an evergreen tree grows up to 60 ft. Leaves are lanceolate and evergreen. It bears greenish-yellow flowers and star-shaped fruits which are segmented. It is native to south east China. It is also found in northeast Indonesia.
It contains 85% of anethole, mythlchavicol and safrole. Its flavor is due to 1, 4-cineol. It is main source of the chemical compound shikimic acid.
It is covered by Homoeopathic Pharmacopoeia of India as well as Homoeopathic Pharmacopoeia of United States. Seeds are used to prepare mother tincture.
It is reported that traditionally it has been used in China for rheumatism, back pain, hernias. It has antibacterial, carminative, diuretic, odontalgic, stimulant, and stomachic activities. It is used as mouth freshener. It is effective for wind, indigestion, colic of children.
Recommended dose: Q/1x 10 to 30 drops.
