Homeopathic Medicine for Acid Reflux

What is acid reflux?

Acid Reflux is a digestive disorder in which the acid from the stomach moves up to the oesophagus and irritates the lining of the food pipe. It is a very common condition that features a burning pain known as heartburn, in the epigastrium, nausea and regurgitation of food. It is also called Gastro esophageal reflux disease (GERD) and is diagnosed when acid reflux occurs more than twice a week.

Causes of Acid Reflux

Acid reflux is a condition when some of the acid content of the stomach flows up into the esophagus, through the lower oesophageal sphincter. Despite the name, heartburn has nothing to do with the heart. The stomach secretes hydrochloric acid, which helps to break down the food and protect against pathogens such as bacteria.

The lining of the stomach is specially adapted to protect it from powerful acid, but the esophagus is not. Not only acid but also pesin and bile are refluxed along with the stomach contents. These substances irritate the lower oesophagus and cause inflammation and pain.

Symptoms of Acid Reflux

Acid refluxes occur in almost every individual once in a while but in people with GERD, it is too frequent and chronic with oesophagitis. Acid reflux usually produces heartburns and regurgitation, whether it is due to a single episode of overeating or persistent GERD.
