Common cold
Common cold is a viral infection of the nose and throat. It is generally harmless. Children younger than six are at greatest risk of colds, but healthy adults can also expect to have two or three colds annually.
Cause
It is commonly caused by rhinovirus. Virus enters in the body through the mouth, eyes or nose. It can be spread by droplets, hand to hand contact, using infected hanky, etc.
Symptoms
Sign and symptoms appear after 2-3 days of exposure to the virus. Symptoms vary person to person. Symptoms may include malaise, low grade fever, runny or stuffy nose, mild headache, bodyache, sneezing, sore throat, etc. After few days watery discharge may get thick yellowish, white or pale yellow. If common cold get worse it can complicated with acute otitis media (earche), asthma, sinusitis, tonsillitis, etc.
