Anaemia in Children
Anaemia is a deficiency of red blood cells, haemoglobin and haematocrit. In children it could be due to simple malnutrition or to complex causes of disease of haematopoietic organs or their suppression due to antibiotics and potent chemotherapeutic agents. Anemia is a problem in which the body does not have enough healthy red blood cells. Red blood cells bring oxygen to body tissues.
Cause
Anaemia may be caused by several problems, including the some infections, certain diseases like thalassemia, certain medications, poor nutrition.
Symptoms
The common symptoms are irritably, short breath, unusual food cravings, less food intake, feel tired or weak all the time, have a sore tongue, headaches or dizziness, brittle nails, pale skin color. In general, a child with significant anemia may tire more easily than other kids and therefore need to limit activity levels. Make sure that your child's teachers and other caregivers are aware of the condition. If iron deficiency is the cause, follow the doctor's directions about dietary changes and taking any supplement/medications for anaemia.
Management and Home remedies
Iron deficiency anemia and vitamin deficiency anemias can be avoided by proper diet management. It can be managed by including high iron content diets like meats, beans, lentils, iron-fortified cereals, dark green leafy vegetables, dried fruit and vitamin C rich diet (it helps in absorption of iron). Anaemia from Vitamin D3 deficiency can be overcome by meat, dairy products, and fortified cereal and soya products.
