Indigestion

Indigestion is also known as dyspepsia. It often indicates an underlying problem, such as gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD), ulcers, or gallbladder disease.

Symptoms

Indigestion may cause pain in abdomen, bloating, heartburn, sensation of fullness of abdomen, excessive gas and belching. In advanced state it may cause nausea and vomiting.

Cause

Commonly indigestion may be caused by over eating, eating fast, having spicy and fatty foods etc. Smoking, alcohol consumption and medicine can be the triggering factors. Stress also triggers the indigestion.

Management

It can be prevented by eat smaller meals throughout the day. Spicy, fatty foods should be avoided. Eat more slowly and don’t eat before lying down. Smoking and alcohol consumption should be stopped. Reduce the amount of coffee, soft drinks, and alcohol you consume. Stop taking medicines that irritate the stomach lining. Reduce stress through yoga or relaxation therapy.
