Heart, one of the vital organs of the body, is located in the center of the chest, slightly pointing to the left. It pumps the blood throughout the body via the network of arteries and veins. In doing so, it supplies much-needed oxygen and nutrients to the tissues and removes carbon dioxide and other waste products of metabolism. Without this supply, the organs and tissues of the body will die. For this, the heart beats about 100,000 times a day, on an average 60-80 beats per minute in an adult and pumps 5.7 liters of blood regularly throughout the body.
