National Zoological Park, Delhi uses homoeopathy to treat animals
In a press coverage it is reported that homoeopathy has been used to treat animals at the National Zoological Park, Delhi, when allopathy doesn’t work. The veterinary officer Dr. Paneer Selvam said “We started using them seven-eight years ago. We get them whenever necessity arises.” Though the zoo’s standard line of treatment is allopathy, whenever a particularly difficult case comes up, Dr. Selvam consults homoeopaths and practitioners of other alternative medicine. “About two years ago, one of the Asiatic lions had hind-quarter paralysis. Another one developed the condition some time back. In both cases we first tried with allopathic treatment but when that didn’t work we used homoeopathic treatment. In my experience, we have got good results. Many of the zoo vets prefer to try alternative medicine now”, said Dr. Selvam. A Himalayan black bear that was afflicted with the same condition a year ago and was cured by homoeopathy.
When contacted for Schwabe News, Dr. Selvam was enthusiastic to share his experiences. One of the first times he tried it was some years ago with an old white tiger with a stone in the urinary bladder. Surgery was too much of a risk for the aged tiger and homoeopathy was used instead. Seeing the results, he began using homoeopathy. The decision to attempt the other lines for treatment isn’t only by Dr. Selvam. It is decided in a quarterly meeting by a health committee that consists of a team of doctors to discuss about the health issues pertaining to animals at the zoo.

Madhya Pradesh government to launch homoeopathic campaign to prevent malaria
There have been studies on the role of homoeopathy in community medicine. This report is about a campaign by the Government of Madhya Pradesh for malaria. It will be a widespread campaign from June 15 with the objective of preventing recurrence of malaria outbreak like last year in Sidhi district. Under the campaign launched by the state government, homoeopathic medicines will be administered door-to-door. The decision to distribute homoeopathy was taken as it has provided effective in prevention of malaria. Anganwadi and ASHA workers will administer dose of the medicines to about 60 thousand families in all the 244 villages of Sidhi district of Madhya Pradesh. They are supported by homoeopaths.
The campaign will benefit around 2.75 lakh population of the district. Three doses of the medicine will be administered on three days which is to start from June 15. The other dates for distributing medicine dose will be June 22 and 29. One worker has been entrusted with the responsibility in each village. According to homoeopathy experts, the medicine is effective in prevention of malaria. Besides, it has no side effects. Anyone can take the dose distributed by the state government under the campaign. Villagers in the Sidhi district have been urged to take interest in taking these preventive doses to avoid the outbreak of malaria.
Madhya Pradesh shows a growing trend in the usage of homoeopathic medicines. The sale of Schwabe’s homoeopathic medicines has shown considerable growth in this state in the last few years.

Tamil Nadu Government’s Homoeopathic Medical College holds camp for dengue
It is yet another report about the utilisation of homoeopathy in community medicine. Administration of homoeopathy pills for prevention of dengue fever continued in Madurai as the Government Homoeopathic Medical College and Hospital, Thirumangalam, conducted two free camps in the city on Wednesday. A special team led by A.Gopalakrishnan, Principal in-charge of the college, had distributed free homoeopathy medicines at an awareness camp organised inside the Goripalayam dargah where 4,502 persons were given the preventive pills.
“The dargah committee had approached us to hold a special camp and distribute the homoeopathy medicine for dengue fever prevention. People in Goripalayam area have benefited because of dargah’s initiative and we are ready to conduct more camps if there are requests,” he said. Since the southern districts were caught in the grip of dengue fever, the Government Homoeopathic College at Tirumangalam had come forward to distribute a medicine ‘Eupatorium perfoliatum’ which, it claimed, has the power to prevent dengue. “It is a very effective medicine and we are distributing it free of cost. It has to be taken for three consecutive days,” Dr.Gopalakrishnan said.
The first awareness camp about this homoeopathic medicine was conducted in the Government Rajaji Hospital here on June 14 in which nearly 1,100 students received it. Along with Goripalayam area, the team also focused on GRH on Wednesday to distribute the homoeopathic pills in nursing quarters inside the hospital. A. Edwin Joe, Dean, GRH, personally monitored the medicine distribution to hostel students and staff.
Overall the trend of usage of homoeopathy shows increasing in all over Tamil Nadu. The state has registered a steady growth in the reception of Schwabe homoeopathic medicines over the last 3-4 years.

Chennai corporation dispensaries to introduce homoeopathic medicines
The Chennai Corporation, like other corporations in India, is planning to introduce wide range of homoeopathic medicines in their dispensaries. The civic body has requested homoeopathic doctors to give a presentation on the medicine for dengue. An advocate of traditional Indian medicines, Mayor Saidai Duraisamy said,” You give us the medicines and a presentation of how many people it has cured and its other properties, we will definitely look into including it in our hospitals,” Homoeopaths prescribe a drug called Eupatorium perfoliatum to treat dengue. ” The Government Homoeopathic Medical College in Madurai has distributed the medicine through many medical camps in the district,” said Dr R Gnanasambandam, former president of the Tamil Nadu Homoeopathy Medical Council.
The proposal came when a group of homoeopathic doctors along with the mayor and corporation commissioner released the English translation of the book Vitiligo Cures authored by Dr Gnanasambandam on Monday at Ripon Buildings. The Mayor also told the doctors to submit a proposal to the state health minister with a consolidated list of diseases and the medicines including homoeopathic ones and those of Ayurveda and Siddha. “Homoeopathic medicines cost just a fraction of allopathic medicines,” said Dr Gnanasambandam.
Schwabe’s homoeopathic medicines in Chennai is freely available. Overall the city has registered around 25% growth in 2011.

Demand for original Schwbe Germany products increasing
The sale of Schwabe Germany imported products in India shows increasing trend without affecting the growth of Schwabe India products. For instance, a century old popular product Cineraria Maritima Schwabe eye drops which has been in the constant demand now shows higher growth since the beginning of this year. The consignments arriving in the country are finished within no time. It has been prescribed by physicians and ophthalmologists for cataract and corneal opacities. Another product used for rheumatic disorder Bryorheum has exceeded the expected units of sale and a big growth has been made in the next consignment. The 500ml pack of Schwabe’s Alfalfa Tonic with its original formulation is selling far above the projected sales figures. There have been many other Schwabe Germany products which have out-numbered the predicted sale.
