Harpagophytum procumbens MT is used for pain of joints, tendons and muscles, which aggravates with change of weather. The plant’s harpagoside and harpagoquinone, as per the recent research, were found to be antiinflammatory, analgesic and strong bitter, which tones up the digestive system and improves the absorption of the foods. In vitro effects indicate a putative beneficial effect of this drug on cartilage turnover in arthritis cases. Many clinical studies of varying quality have suggested improvements in comfort and function in sufferers from pain in the lower back, hip and knee.
